Just a few shopping days left before Christmas. Don’t let your car become a shopping mall for crooks. Every year, over $1.25 billion in personal property is stolen from America’s vehicles, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau. Most of it is never recovered. However, your homeowner’s insurance or renter’s insurance may.

You’ll have to read your homeowner’s policy for exclusions, but some policies do insure personal property that is temporarily out of your home . Others let yo

Finding a family car insurance policy can be difficult, as families generally need more coverage than individuals to stay protected. Many families also have one or more high-risk drivers, usually teenagers, and high-risk drivers mean higher auto insurance premiums. The good news is that many car insurance companies will offer special discounts and coverage programs to families, and by carefully considering coverage options and comparing insurance rates before buying a policy, families can find great coverage at a relatively low price per-driver.

The first step that drivers should take to find a family car insurance policy is to choose appropriate coverage limits.

AARP is an organization that offers whole life indemnity for the older community. It looks at the different needs of the older generation who are more likely to have health issues and are of course older meaning the policy will be based on a shorter amount of time than a normal whole life insurance term. Although still seen as a risky type of life insurance there are still benefits for older policy owners that they need to be aware of.

Federal officials have announced that the Medicareenrollment deadline, which is set to expire today, has been extended through Dec. 10 due to a jump in last-minute sign-ups. However, the officials caution that seniors may only qualify for the extension if they take important steps before the close of business today.

To keep up with a sudden increase in last-minute sign-ups, federal officials have decided to issue a three-day Medicare enrollment extension. They say this will give recipients an opportunity to switch coverage options within the private health insurance plan if they so choose.

Motorists are being advised by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) not to risk leaving their cars unattended.

As cold weather once again closes in, many will leave their cars unattended whilst they defrost and warm up, but the ABI is advising motorists to stay with their cars and not run the risk of theft.

Last year there was a spike in thefts of cars that were left running but without their driver in sight.

In addition to the risk of theft, leaving a car unattended with the keys in the ignition could invalidate insurance policies.

ABI Director of General Insurance Nick Starling warned motorists to never leave their cars unattended whilst waiting inside for it to defrost and get warm.

In the recent harsh winters police have recorded a surge in such crimes, and two years ago a gang of thieves known as The Ice Bandits received custodial sentences.

Over the past 40 years, an interesting transition has been taking place on American roads, namely the composition of drivers and the mix of their ages. In 1983, half of all drivers on the road were under the age of 40. Now drivers under 40 make up less than 40 percent of all on the road.

During the same period of time, the number of drivers under the age of 30 has experienced a similar precipitous drop. If we traveled back to 1983, wed find that approximately 33 percent of all drivers were under 30.

The Department of Health and Human Services today released its final medical loss ratio rule. The rule will ensure that health insurance companies spend at least 80 percent of consumers’ health insurance premiums on medical care rather than on income, overhead and marketing expenses.

The Hill: “Insurance plans will soon have to give consumers more information about how their premium dollars are spent, even if the spending meets new federal requirements. The disclosure requirements were included in final regulations on the healthcare reform law’s medical loss ratio (MLR) provision. The Health and Human Services Department finalized its MLR rules Friday” (Baker, 12/2).
