Research conducted by an insurance firm ‘Sainsbury’s car Insurance’ has revealed that many UK motorists are breaking the laws when they are driving in other countries during their holidays or business tours.
The research also found that a huge amount of car owners will not care to pack a glowing warning triangle in their cars even if it is a legal requirement of the country in which they are driving. This is a serious matter that can make them pay heavy penalties, accumulate points on their driving licenses (which are obviously from the UK) as well as making their temporary or travel insurances as void, making them uninsured in a foreign country.
The research also threw light on another amazing fact. The report said that a high number of people will not carry enough and proper documentations for the proof that they are driving their own vehicles in some other country. Carrying these documents is necessary in many of the European countries.
If these statistics are followed with the same trend, then about 6.5 million motorists from the UK who are intending to drive their vehicles overseas will end up breaking the local laws. This could seriously harm their clean driving records maintained in their own countries.
It is important for the holiday goers to compare car insurance policies of the two countries before they set off for the journey. By understanding all the necessary formalities and laws to be complied, their journeys can be a lot safer and simpler.
The manager of the Sainsbury’s Car Insurance says that the UK motorists who are planning to take their cars to a foreign country for any reason must be fully prepared for it. Driving on a new road in some other country will of course require a proper planning and research about the various laws and practices.
